De-Cluttering with New Habits
Dear Kathie,
Are you changing your habits – one at a time – in
2007? Have you found homes for every thing
(Habit #1)? Are you practicing simplicity –
letting go and managing less to create more of what
you really want (Habit #2)? This month we revisit how
clutter negatively impacts your time. If you want more
time to do the things you love, you'll want to practice
Habit #3: Now and Never. Keep practicing
each habit. Clutter clearing is a process. Before you
know it, new habits create new behaviors and you're
on your way to clutter-free living.
Third of Six Habits for De-Cluttering Success
Habit Three: Now and Never
One of the quickest cures for clutter is avoiding
postponed decisions. Any time you can do something
NOW instead of setting it aside to do later, you save
time. Minutes are always easier to find than
hours.
Every time you delay filing a piece of paper, making a
phone call, answering an email, holding onto an offer
to think about later, the minutes add up. Before you
know it you've got a list or pile that will take hours to
complete instead of minutes and you may NEVER get
around to clearing the clutter.
Create real time by doing NOW instead of postponing
the decision and revisiting the same issues
repeatedly or NEVER.
- Toss the donation request if you don't have the
money right NOW. You are on their mailing list. You'll
get another request.
- Call the charity and ask to be removed NOW if you
no longer want to receive their mail.
- Call 1.888.567.8688 NOW to eliminate junk
mail offers and one less piece of mail to tackle.
- Fix the lamp NOW and use it or donate it NOW
- Read, reply and delete an email NOW
- File the paper NOW instead of adding to a pile
you may NEVER find enough time to tackle
Create a "tackle-toss-to-tickle" system NOW to
eliminate NEVER having time
for YOU!
2007 Year of the Pig/Boar
Making the best of a Fire year
Happy New Year! February 18 was Chinese New
Year and the Year of the Pig/Boar. For those of you
born in 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983 or 1995 -
you were born under the sign of the pig.
Characteristics include: chivalry, pureness of heart,
and life-long friends. This is your year to shine both in
your career and in your personal life. Be open to
opportunities for success in all areas of your life.
What can we expect in this year of the Pig/Boar?
- This is the year of the Fire Pig/Boar – expansion,
spark, energy, fireworks, and excitement
- The Chinese zodiac has 12 animals and the
Pig/Boar is 12th. This year ends the cycle which
means it's time to celebrate your accomplishments.
Take a vacation, spend time with family and friends,
and be good to yourself.
- This fire year is the time to take action and wind
down or finalize projects in preparation for a new
cycle next year.
- This is not the best year for starting risky, new
projects.
- Be open for opportunities to make more money
this year.
- Building relationships with family, friends, and
lovers is important in this fire year of passion.
- Pigs love to read. This is a good year for taking
classes, learning new things, and expanding your
knowledge.
- In all things balance is best. Do not overstress
yourself. Create time for work and play.
- The pig is laid back and easy going. Follow his
lead – have fun, enjoy life, and spend time with those
you love.

Eat Chocolate
– it won't clutter your arteries!
According to an article in the Los Angeles
Times, researchers have found
that “chocolate
thins blood and protects the heart in the same way as
aspirin”. It goes on to say that “you have to eat at
least a couple of tablespoons of dark chocolate a day
to see some benefit”. What a sacrifice!
And USA Weekend Women's Health
says “recent studies show that [a piece of dark
chocolate] contains chemicals that fight tooth plaque
buildup.” Put chocolate on your shopping list. Use it
as a reward after an hour of clutter clearing.
