Dear Kathie,

Clutter comes in all shapes, sizes, and forms. That means clutter can be physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual. This holiday season remember how you want to spend your time and energy and avoid any thing that you do not use, love, or need (clutter). Make the holidays special and memorable! And thank you for allowing me to come into your home and office every month to share tips on ways to clutter clear so that by December you have lots of time and energy to enjoy the life you imagine. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy Happy New Year!

Make Room for 2007

December is my clutter clearing month. Not only does it help keep me in check by not buying and spending on things I (and others) will not use or need, it helps me get ready for the New Year. Remember that clutter is 'old stuff' that keeps us stuck in the past. I just got off the phone with a friend who is a nutritionist and personal trainer who tells me December is her clutter clearing month too. She just cleaned out all her files, is going through the clothes in the basement, and cleaned out her boyfriend's kitchen. “It feels so great!” We agreed that clearing clutter opens space for wonderful new things to come into our lives: possibilities, clients, money, relationships, opportunities. These are the areas I clutter clear every December.

  • Clothes closet – stuff that doesn't fit goes to CWEE Boutique (see link below)
  • Files – making room for new clients
  • Holiday decorations – too many, tired, tattered
  • Receipts – getting organized for tax filing
  • Rolodex – when I update my Christmas card list
  • Spices – while I'm baking and cooking (they do have a shelf life)

Tangibles vs. Intangibles

You can clutter clear your holidays by remembering to give and receive experiences instead of stuff (things you or others will not use or need). Give 'consume-ables' this year!

  • Food: salsas, coffees, wines, restaurant certificates
  • Entertainment: Movie, theatre, museum tickets
  • Classes at Arapahoe Community College or Colorado Free University: scrapbooking, computer tech, dance, cooking, foreign language, golf
  • Products: lotions, oils, creams, massage, pedicure
  • Support: child care, personal errands, painting, cleaning

Especially Experiences! Create a personal gift certificate for your family member or friend. The special part of this gift is that you'll participate with them and have the gift of each other's company throughout the year. How about a trip or cruise, climbing a Fourteener together, participating in a monthly book club, volunteering for a common interest, fund raising for a charity of choice.

Feng Shui Balance

Feng Shui your holidays with two important aspects of Feng Shui: Balance and Nature.

  • Balanced food intake
  • Balanced gift giving
  • Balanced time for YOU with time for others
  • Get outside! Enjoying a sleigh ride, skiing, hiking, sledding, walking in the fresh air, building a snowman (if you can find some snow)

This year, remember the words of Elaine St. James who says, "Christmas can be about The Spirit, not the shopping mall. It can be about family and friends, not worrying about the 'perfect' gift. It can be about warmth and joy, not about decorating the biggest tree. It can be about quiet reflection, not raucous parties. Most of all, it can bring peace, not pressure." Find your balance this year and do the things you will love and treasure for years to come. See you in 2007!

Sincerely,
