Letting Go of Your Soul Clutter

Too often our negative self-talk gets in the way of our making room for the magic of our lives. We talk ourselves out of believing we can do anything we want based on past negative experiences and programming. Clear mental and soul clutter -- talk you do not love, use or need -- by completing this 'adventure.'

1. Fill a canvas bag with large, smooth rocks (about 5" diameter). Don't fill the bag so full you can't carry it, but full enough so it is unpleasant to lift.

2. Ask yourself "what are the negative and disparaging words I hear in my head that keep me from living the magic of my life?" Then, use a black marker pen to write these words on each of the rocks in your bag.

3. The bag is now your constant partner. It goes everywhere you go. It sits by your bed at night. It goes in the car with you. You must take it when you walk and exercise, to your appointments, to work, to school.

4. Every day, at a predetermined time, take your bag of NEGATIVE SOUL CLUTTER to running water -- a river or stream -- and toss 1 rock in the water. Toss away that disparaging and negative word. Continue every day until all the rocks are gone.

When you let go of the clutter -- history and old stuff -- you make room for amazing and wonderful things in your life. (Adapted from an email from Roberta Binder, Fort Collins)

Dear Kathie,

Clutter is not just physical stuff. Remember, clutter is anything you do not use, love or need and too much stuff in too small a space. Clutter also can be in your head. Is your thinking cluttered? Sometimes we can call this clutter, 'soul clutter.'

Collector Colleen
pile of sport goods

Colleen has an amazing collection of [insert your collection here like tea pots, stuffed animals, frogs, dolls, baseball cards, etc.]. She is emotionally attached to this collection and says it makes her happy. However, Colleen is realizing that her collection is taking up a significant amount of storage space -- all but a few pieces are in boxes. If you have a collection like Colleen's, use these tips to determine why you're collecting and if you're ready to let it go.

  1. Identify the meaning behind the collection. What emotional feelings does your collection fill?
  2. How are you honoring your collection? If it's so special, why is it in storage?
  3. Choose and display your 5 or 10 most favorite and donate the rest to a special person/home/cause.
  4. Revisit the memory; revel in the memory; remember the memory is the real gift.

Feng Shui for Love and Romance

The principles of Feng Shui encourage you to create an environment that supports your goals and desires. If you 'desire' a mate or more passion with the mate you have, make these changes and Feng Shui for Love.

  1. Create a romantic Relationship Gua. From your front door, the upper right corner of your home represents your relationship area. Create an intimate and inviting spot with soft lighting and cozy seating.
  2. Get the family photos out of your bedroom. You don't want the kids and your parents as 'peeping Toms.' Get rid of lonely single pictures and art that represent only one. Replace with happy couples and knick knacks/art in pairs.
  3. Create a sumptuous love nest with new bedding, pillows, and sheets that make you want to stay in bed with your lover for days.
  4. Make room for your 'potential' mate by empyting a dresser drawer and making room in the closet and medicine cabinet for your 'new' partner.

Success Stories

"It's been nearly two months since you came to my house and I am still on an 'organizing high.' All I want to do is stay home and play house! I've managed to get a few things organized -- personal files, linen closet, my dresser, and jewelry drawers. I think you would be pleased. PS. I've signed up for both of your classes on March 4." --Anna F. Castle Rock
