"Recycling" Resources for Clearing Clutter

Hello!
Have you been avoiding letting go of clutter because you can't bear to have it sitting in a landfill somewhere? Perhaps your "stuff" is valuable and you're looking for someplace to sell it. The following "recycling" resources have been compiled at your request. Happy de-cluttering this fall!

  1. SHRED-IT. 1-800-697-4733. They come to your door and shred while you watch. Confidential papers, bank records, books, manuals, anything paper. $85/12 copy size paper boxes.
  2. 1-800-GOT-JUNK. They do all the loading and clean up. Old furniture, appliances, debris.
  3. Habitat for Humanity: www.habitat.org. Type in Colorado, click on "Metro Denver", click on "Web Site", click on "Outlet Store." You can arrange for a pickup of bathroom fixtures and construction items after a remodel, furniture, and appliances. Donate to Habitat and get a tax deduction and Habitat gets $$ to build more homes.
  4. Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation: 303.433.6975. Clothing, linens, housewares, working TVs and radios, large furniture items, and vehicles.
  5. Jane Lawnhurst: jlawnhurst@att.net or 303.777.4015. Buys and Sells. Specialties include jewelry, watches, silver, antiques, glassware, and linens.
  6. TRI-R Recycling: www.newspaperbins.com. Type in your address and find the dumpster location nearest you. All junk mail, magazines, newspapers. No cardboard or phone books.

Packing Light
In his travel books, Rick Steves says once you've put everything in your suitcase, go back and remove half of it. You'll never need it. I've found this to be excellent advice.

Another packing light tip is to color coordinate your clothes so that you can mix and match, taking less and still looking your best. If you haven't heard of Weekenders clothing line you may want to look into their philosophy at www.weekenders.com. On my recent trip to California for a Feng Shui conference I took jackets, dresses, tops, and pants/skirts in black, white and lime green. Certainly simplified my life.
